How your money will help
We are grateful for all the donations we receive, however large or small. They will help
us bring smiles to the faces of thousands of older people.
Food for thought
It’s an unpalatable truth that many older people in the UK are lonely and poorly treated.
We believe older people should be treated with respect and dignity and we lobby Parliament
on older people’s rights. We also believe that older people should be valued members of their
communities, and we organise company and social interaction for older people who might otherwise
go for weeks on end without talking to another human being.
- Nearly half of older people in the UK aged 65+ consider the television as their main form of company.
- Some 600,000 older people leave their house just once a week or less frequently.
- Sunday is often the loneliest day of the week for older people, as it is the day traditionally associated with family get-togethers.
How you can make a difference
- £5 could pay for a hot meal at a lunch club, providing vital companionship.
- £10 could pay for a social activity such as an exercise class or group outing.
- £50 could fund a home visit to a lonely older person by a ‘befriender’.
- £500 could fund a week’s running cost for a minibus that picks up older people from home and takes them to a local day centre.
- £1,000 could keep one of our day centres open for a week, allowing hundreds of older people to enjoy activities, companionship and warmth.
The Great Sunday Lunch is also an opportunity to remember that no one should have to eat Sunday
lunch alone, and that older people should be included as valued members of communities and families.
Getting together over a good meal is the perfect way to celebrate life at every age!
